This vintage engraving depicts the portrait of Charles Cotesworth Pinckney (1746 - 1825), an American statesman of South Carolina and a veteran of the American Revolution. He was also a delegate to the Constitutional Convention and was twice a candidate for President, and served as Ambassador to France. It was engraved by Edward Wellmore (b. 1835) after the painting by Edward Greene Malbone (1777 - 1807). Published in an 1865 collection of American portraits, it is now in the public domain. Casimir Pulaski was a Polish soldier, member of the Polish-Lithuanian szlachta and politician who has been called "the father of American cavalry". During the American Revolutionary War he saved the life of George Washington and became a general in the Continental Army. He died of wounds suffered in the Battle of Savannah 1779.
