DESCRIPTION

19th-century illustration of armored Normans riding horses in forest in Middle ages in England. "They rode about in armor - helmets on their heads, a shirt of mail made of chains of iron linked togeder, over their bodies, gloves and boots of iron, swords by their sides and lances in their hands - and thus they could bear down all before them. They called themselves knights." Original artwork published in "A pictorial history of the world's great nations: from the earliest dates to the present time" vol.2 by Charlotte M. Yonge (Selmar Hess, New York, 1882).
